Can’t add more menus to WordPress custom menus

Unable to add more menu items in WordPress?

If you find that you can’t add additional menu items in WordPress using the WP custom menus under appearance, chances are you already have 16 items there.

It seems there is a bug which is affected by PHP’s suhosin settings with some servers – and it’s not an issue with your theme or settings inside WordPress itself.

The solution

The way to resolve it is to amend the suhosin settings in your php.ini file. If you’ve gone blank by now then you just need to contact your hosting providers support department and ask for the following to be updated:

suhosin.post.max_vars = 5000

suhosin.request.max_vars = 5000

After this update you’ll easily be able to add further menu items in WordPress – appearance – menus.

I understand that this issue is being looked into and should be resolved in future releases of Wordpress without the need to edit these server side settings.

In case you’re interested the settings allow more variables to be passed than the standard setting. The workaround in the future would be to have the menu items in an array so that this issue doesn’t arise.

How to remove WordPress admin bar

I’ve seen some plugins around that disable the admin bar that now shows at the top of your browser when viewing your site.

You don’t actually need a plugin you just need to do the following:

Login to WordPress admin
Go to ‘Users’ then ‘edit’
Uncheck ‘show admin bar when viewing site’
Genius!

House building in Kenya

A charity project for the construction of a house in Kenya for a family supporting an orphan of Aids. Supported through the American Association for Children with AIDS

This website was set-up and live on our hosting within two hours from receiving instructions the day the project began. The site was then updated by Swordfishsoup as the project progressed via images and content sent via phone from Kenya.

The project was a success, Zawaldi got a new home and enough money was raised through the website to build another!

Googles street view hiccup

Google was under pressure last week as it’s street view vehicles managed to gain access to data over peoples Wi-Fi connections.

A Google spokesman told Web User: “We are profoundly sorry for mistakenly collecting payload data in the UK from unencrypted wireless networks. Since we announced our mistake in May we have cooperated closely with the ICO and worked to improve our internal controls.”

“As we have said before, we did not want this data, have never used any of it in our products or services, and have sought to delete it as quickly as possible. We are in the process of confirming that there are no outstanding legal obligations upon us to retain the data, and will then ensure that it is quickly and safely deleted,” the spokesman continued.

The Metropolitan Police are looking into complaints about this after information from a privacy campaign group. Could this be the end of the road for Google – or just the end of that road maybe.
